Wake on LAN client for your Android device. Using the WOL client you can wake up WOL-enabled devices.
Furthermore the WOL client has support for proximity wake-up which will wake up machines when you enter a certain wireless network. This way your Android device can boot up your work computer when you enter the building.
Wake on LAN Client can be downloaded from Android Market.
How does WOL work?
Wake on LAN enables you to wake up computers/devices on the network. The feature must be enabled on the device – usually through BIOS or some other setup. Please note that not all computers and devices support Wake on LAN.
With WOL enabled the process is to send a special well-formet network package to the network broadcast address containing the MAC address of the computer/device that should be woken.
Please refer to the article about WOL on wikipedia for further information.
About security permissions
The app will ask for three security permissions when installing. These are “INTERNET”, “ACCESS_WIFI_STATE” and “ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE”. The first is needed to actually send the Wake-on-LAN-packages. The other two is needed to provide lists of known wireless networks and turn on computers through the proximity feature when entering a known wireless network.
